Ramashram Satsang Mathura – An Introduction

We express our deepest reverence, respect and extreme gratitude to our Guru Maharaj the founder of Ramashram satsang Mathura, Dr. Chaturbhuj Sahay Ji for providing us with this opportunity to immerse ourselves in the river of sublime consciousness and cleanse our thoughts and behavior.

Ramashram Satsang Mathura was founded as an organization where people could participate individually as well as collectively, with the goal of obtaining lasting inner peace.

At the core is a unique meditation system devised by Guru Maharaj. This is a fusion of several different ideologies and practices, specially modified to suit our today’s fast paced life. Devoting only about an hour every day, using this simple, easy yet effective practice, everyone can attain lasting inner peace and eternal happiness, all while successfully engaging in the normal activities of work and family life.

One can question the need for embarking upon a seemingly difficult spiritual journey when everything in our physical world appears to be flowing smoothly. Humans by nature seek happiness in everything that they do. True happiness, however, is not found in worldly pursuits, where every action is undertaken with a pre-decided desired outcome. When worldly desires are fulfilled, we become happy, and when they are not, we become sad. This roller coaster ride continues throughout our lives, and leads to a substantial part of our life being spent in unhappiness, fear and anxiety. Secondly fulfillment of desires and sensual gratification is a never ending process, where fulfillment of one desire gives rise to many more.

This human life that we are leading is meant to be lived in happiness, bliss and peace, but since we seek happiness in worldly pursuits we end up never really finding it or at least never being satisfied with them. However, when we regularly sit in the company of a self-realized person or guru, the interior of our heart, mind and intellect gets illuminated. We realize this basic fact about the non-fulfillment of desires all the time. This internal enlightenment gives us a state of internal happiness, which is the one and only source of lasting peace. Because internal happiness is a state of mind, which is not dependent upon external factors, rather it is achieved with regular meditation and practice. Our Guru Maharaj has given us a simple yet effective system to do just that.

The ultimate aim of any spiritual undertaking is to seek oneness with the supreme, but this is not easy and takes several years of systematic continuous practice. However only after a few weeks or months of regular practice one can feel an internal change. One feels more calm and tolerant towards the happenings in the external world. One’s behavior towards others improves, in turn resulting in others treating us better. Steadily our boundary of love for others enlarges and anger and greed dissipates. All these changes make our life much more peaceful, happier and meaningful.

Guru Maharaj explains that there are two categories of Satsang viz External and Internal. Our system belongs to the internal satsang category, which is not an abstract concept but slowly and steadily instills in us righteousness ie the art of appropriately living in this world where by we become better family members, coworkers, and citizens.

The physical hardships or obstacles we face do not necessarily change, but our perspective towards them changes and we no longer get saddened by them. Rather we become more accommodative, which means we progress in spite of these obstacles.

We pray to Guru Maharaj to bless us all so that we can make meaningful progress in our spiritual journey. We ask for his guidance as we continue to embark on this path that he has prescribed for us.
